Minutes to Midnight-Linkin Park

I couldn’t say I still really “got” the entire rap/metal thing that went down in the late Nineties. Bands like Children o bodom and Limp Bizkit at the moment seemed like moody kids who were appropriating hip-hop composition devoid of any meticulous passion or admiration from the type. At the same time as it took me a while to be grateful for them, Linkin Park puts out from that pack not only on explanation of prolonged existence, but for the reason that they were obsessive and soulful in a way that never actually came across with other bands in the similar style. While it took me a while to appreciate the infrequently whiny, shattering vocals of Chester Bennington (at times, particularly on LP’s first album, “Hybrid Theory”, he sounded like a grouchy 9-year old with his lower lip jutting out), I right away had admiration for Mike Shinoda as an MC. Its one thing to squeal and be angry at the world, rather another to coherent that anger with meaning and passion. Shinoda’s pronounced, specific style of rhyming grabbed me adequate to finally purchase “Hybrid Theory” and like it.

Fans who wait for bands to stay in the same place stylistically for the entire period of their careers almost certainly won’t be pleased with the “trialing” of “Minutes to Midnight”. Nevertheless, what some folks see as “experimentation” (and a lot of folks almost certainly see as “selling out”), I see as simple maturation. At some point, most disturbed young folks moreover adjust or direct their anger towards dissimilar targets (those that don’t remain arrested youngsters and either estrange all around them or end up on the 11PM news). Three albums into a victorious career, “Minutes To Midnight” finds Linkin Park continuing the evolution from just one more  metal band to a attractive damn good rock band.
